About

Hello! I am Fiona Twose, a British mixed media artist living in Norfolk, Virginia, USA.

I’m essentially self-taught and often attend classes and workshops so I can grow and keep developing my own artistic voice.

My work has been featured at the Stockley Gardens Art Festival, the Norfolk Academy Art Fair, the Nansemond Suffolk Art Sale, the Norfolk Academy Art Sale, the Chesapeake Art Festival, the Port Warwick Art and Sculpture Festival, and the Hermitage Handmade Festival, where I won second prize in September 2022.

The inspiration for my pieces comes from the world around me – whether it’s recording the beauty of nature or the life and vibrancy of a city scene.  If the subject speaks to me, I seek to honour it in my creation. Many of my pieces contain relevant words and messages hidden within the images.

Rich textures and saturated colours create the most impact in my work. When using collage, I generally paint the scene first and then add layers and layers of recycled paper to add depth and texture. The results are sometimes playful, but always bold, fresh, and packed with colour. My goal is to bring a sense of happiness to the viewer, so it’s important that all of my artwork is uplifting and full of vibrant energy.

My clients often say that they love the feeling of pure joy my work brings. One buyer said that she loved the way I captured ‘soul’ through my artwork. So I truly hope if my artwork is new to you, that you find the same soulful joy and energy in whatever pieces you may choose.

“Fiona submitted her application to the Port Warwick Art and Sculpture Festival in March, about the time that Russia was invading Ukraine.  The invasion was weighing heavily on all of our minds and the Jury met soon after to review some of the applications for acceptance to the show.  As we were reviewing Fiona’s application, we pulled up the first image that she submitted and it was ‘The vase of hope,’ a mixed media piece of artwork with the brilliant blue and yellow colors of the Ukrainian flag.  We all gasped and said that this is beautiful and we had just found the winning artwork for our Collector’s Poster for 2022!”
